Segmentation. If you’re using custom tabs as part of your Facebook fan page stragegy (using FBML Application), you’ll want to be able to track and monitor each custom tab individually to understand how your fans and non-fans are interacting on your total page.

Mariam John has an excellent post on Social Media Examiner, covering the entire process of how to add Google Analytics to Facebook Fan Pages. You’ll need to use a free tool, that turns your Google Analytics code into tracking images, so you can easily cut-n-paste the code to each tab.

You’ll want to create a unique tracking code for every custom tab on your Facebook Fan Page. You’ll also want to create a general one for your wall.
